What is MyDataTools?

MyDataTools is a public-facing set of free data utilities operated by MyWaypoint Technologies Inc., a Canadian company. The tools are designed to be immediately useful to data analysts, developers, GIS practitioners, data stewards, and anyone who works with structured data as part of their work.

Every tool runs entirely in the browser using client-side JavaScript. No files are uploaded, no data is retained, and no account is required. You can use any tool immediately, on any device, without identifying yourself.

Why free tools?

Data quality problems are universal. Whether you're a small municipality managing open data, a nonprofit working with grant data, or a developer building a data pipeline, you'll encounter the same categories of issues: missing values, inconsistent formatting, undocumented columns, files with encoding problems, and datasets that may contain personal information they shouldn't.

These are solvable problems. Good tooling should not require a subscription, a sign-up, or the willingness to upload sensitive data to a third-party server. MyDataTools provides these utilities free of charge and processes everything locally.

The tools

The current toolkit includes:

• PII Scanner — pattern-based detection of email addresses, phone numbers, postal codes, and SIN numbers
• Dataset Documentation Generator — auto-generated data dictionaries with type inference and statistics
• Postal Code Lookup — offline Canadian postal code and FSA resolution
• Address Geocoder — Canadian address geocoding via OpenStreetMap Nominatim
• Dataset Change Monitor — row-level comparison of two CSV versions with downloadable report

Privacy commitment

MyDataTools does not set cookies, run analytics, load third-party scripts, or track visitors in any way. This is not a marketing claim — it is a structural property of the site. There is nothing to configure, no consent to manage, and no data to delete, because none is collected.

For file-based tools, all processing happens in your browser. For the Address Geocoder, your query is sent directly from your browser to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service — not through our servers.
